Dyson officially launches its bladeless fan, the Air Multiplier

The Air Multiplier Dyson

Following a storm of excited news leaks last week, Dyson officially launched its Air Multiplier last night at Sydney’s Ivy Hotel. According to inventor James Dyson, the idea for the Air Multiplier was stumbled upon while monitoring the air flow of his Air Blade hand driers.

Using the same motors found in his handheld vacuum cleaners, the Air Multiplier absorbs air through the base and accelerates it through a 1mm aperture housed towards the rear of the ring. The jet of air that passes over the ring’s airfoil ramp draws in the surrounding air through a process Dyson calls ‘viscous sheering’. This ‘multiplies’ the amount of air being propelled forward by sixteen times.

The end result is a cleaner, safer fan that's easier to clean and less hazardous to children. Also, without blades to buffet the air, the breeze is continuous and uninterrupted.

The Air Multiplier will be available in three colours across two sizes; $379 for the 25cm model and $399 for the 30cm models.
