It wasn’t so long ago that TiVo arrived in Australia to offer consumers another option for premium television programming. And, as would be expected in our capitalist society, this upset the likes of Foxtel, with a mini scuffle breaking out between the familiar premium content provider (Foxtel) and the ‘invader’ (TiVo). In the end the ultimate victor was the consumer who got to reap the reduced prices and service offering benefits provided by such a battle.
Fast-forward to now and TiVo is still around and, better yet, expanding its content offering. Gizmodo is reporting the news that the Australian distributors of TiVo, HybridTV, has expanded their VOD Caspa service with Disney content. What’s more, this offering is not merely limited to children’s programming and also includes popular ABC content such as Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives and Lost.
TiVo users will also be able to access back catalogue content of Disney and ABC programming. The downside is that users will have to fork out $3 a pop for every individual episode they want to watch, which can quickly add up when looking at the number of episodes in your average TV season.
Let us know if TiVo’s steps towards expanding their content offering are enough to make you want to jump to the premium programming service.
