Just don't leave any hammers lying around near this little guy

So, we all have valuables and things that we want to keep safe, but the idea of lugging a giant cast iron safe into your house seems like too much like hard work. So what should you do? The answer, at this point, is simple - make a miniature working, lockable safe entirely out of paper.

Flick your browser over to here for the full set of instructions, but needless to say, the design and set up of the safe is, well, actually quite elegant. Not the kind of thing you necessarily what in a safe, but there it is.

All the rotors and mechanisms, also made out of paper, work perfectly. As in a regular safe, each tumbler connects with the next tumbler when it reaches the correct number at the correct point in the three number sequence. Failing to turn the combination wheel correctly means you have to start again.

Once you have it set up, the only way into the safe is to spin in the correct combination. Or, you know, smash the whole thing with a hammer. But what self-respecting thief could do such a thing to what is the prettiest mini-safe you'll ever see?

We plan to make one to stash spare change in. The weight of the coins may possibly cause the whole thing to collapse, but that's a risk we're willing to take.
