Intel Talks Chips

The world?s first 22nm chips announced for a 2011 release

As some of you may well be aware, there?s an Intel Developer Forum currently underway in sunny San Francisco. Trinkets of information on upcoming products are trickling through, and Intel has very recently announced some exciting developments in their chip technology.

President and chief executive officer of Intel, Paul Otellini, brandished a 22nm wafer during the keynote presentation at the Developer Forum. The associated press release sheds some extra light on the tech. The working silicon wafer contained both logic circuits and SRAM memory. The wafer is comprised of a single die that boasts more than 2.9 billion transistors and 364 million bits of SRAM memory.

Those eager to get their hands on the new technology will have to wait as the 22nm chips aren?t scheduled for retail release until the second half of 2011.
