It's nuts seeing how quickly that Honda F1 car pulls away after initial acceleration.

Door in the Floor Leads to Amazing Spiral Wine Dungeon

By Posted on 1.23.2009 3 Comments

Story from Gizmodo Australia Rich wine nerds have a wine cellar. Very, very rich wine nerds install a door in their kitchen floor leading to a spiral staircase surrounded by wine, which is the coolest wine cellar ever. In addition to being certifiably badass, a spiral wine cellar uses the ground to keep bottles at an ideal temperature without needing any fancy electronics. It saves space and, sure, why not, let's call it cost effective.

That would be the most awesome cellar. Hope the glass is tough enough to take the weight of constant walking over.

Singapore Airlines to introduce Airbus A330 on Australian routes

By Posted on 1.22.2009 1 Comments

OK, the Airbus A330-300 isn’t a new plane from the French manufacturer, but it is filled with top technology. Singapore Airlines is about to roll out 19 new ones filled with even more technology, and they’re heading down under. The first service will head to Brisbane on March 30 this year.

Singapore are so far ahead of the flight game. I remember flying one of their 747s from Sydney to Rome via Singapore in 1997 and even then they had entertainment units with Super Nintendo in the back of every economy seat. I flew United to San Fran last year and you could have been forgiven for thinking they didn't even have lifejackets!

Evidence That Traffic Tickets Aren’t Just About Road Safety

By Molika Ashford Posted on 1.22.2009 3 Comments

If you thought there was no science behind getting a speeding ticket, you’re right, kind of… It’s probably more of a case of economics. In North Carolina, at least, – where researchers examined 96 counties for a report in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Law and Economics – when local government revenue goes down, ticketing goes up. Yes we’ve all said it before: public safety isn’t the only motivation for tickets. (Can’t you just give me a warning, Officer?) But now there is scientific proof of that long held suspicion.

If you break the law you deserve a ticket. If you get off you're lucky. As long as the ppl dishing out the tix are doing so fairly then all good.

Staying Healthy Never Felt So Good

By Posted on 1.21.2009 2 Comments

Why is it that when you are working hard and multitasking like a superhero, you tend to get sick? A recent study by Sheldon Cohen from Carnegie Mellon University examined the relationship between sleep habits and susceptibility to the common cold. The results indicated that there is a direct correlation between how much sleep you get per night and the likelihood that you will be stuck in bed with a rhinovirus after just two weeks of poor sleeping habits.

I think you have to make time. It's bloody hard, agreed, but perhaps instead of watching a movie at night go for a jog or a walk. Then again, with all the stuff you have to do when you get home to keep the house in order it's easier said than done/

LightLane Ensures Cyclists a Bike Lane Wherever They Go

By Posted on 1.19.2009 2 Comments

Story from Gizmodo Australia University students bike it everywhere, I had to bike everywhere when I was at university. You would think a university town would have had designated bike lanes everywhere, but they often don't. That's where the LightLane would've come in handy. Using lasers affixed to your bicycle, the LightLane concept projects a virtual bike lane around you, letting cars around you know their boundaries and making it a little safer for you.

I like this, but perhaps something like this should also be on motorbikes. Not a dedicated laser lane as such, but perhaps a laser box beamed around the bike to ward cars away from the motorbike and create more personal space for them.
