BlackBerry wants you to forget iPhone 4 and carry the Torch instead

With so much hullabaloo recently over the not-so-long-ago release of the iPhone 4 (particularly here in Australia), it’s no wonder that other smartphone manufacturers would be racing to ensure that you haven’t forgotten that there are other options out there. It just so happens that BlackBerry, who have recently unveiled their latest model phone in the US of A, the Torch 9800, are eager to let Australians know that we have not been forgotten.

Gizmodo is reporting that distributor RIM has announced the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone will be expected to hit Australian shores “in the coming months.” The three big mobile phone providers—Telstra, Optus and Three—will be offering the new smartphone, with further details to be revealed closer to the local release date.

So what exactly can you expect from the new BlackBerry? The Torch 9800 features a vertical-sliding 3.2-inch touchscreen, QWERTY keypad and a semi-familiar user interface for anyone who’s played with a more-recent BlackBerry. We’ve embedded a quick hands-on video from Engadget below so you can see how it all works.
