Looks like it’s time to update again, folks. But this time, Microsoft has a slightly more complicated pricing system based on the type of computer you’re using (and the kind of package you want). Essentially, people who’ve bought ready-made home computers from any of the major manufacturers with Office pre-loaded can unlock that software using a Product Key Card. You’ll note, from the list below, that the Product Key Cards are cheaper than buying the software from the store by as much as $350. That’s going to be of little comfort to people who’ve built their own computers and have to buy the software from scratch; but Microsoft argues the prices are comparable to the pricing scheme for Office 2007. In any case, here are the prices:
- Office Home and Student 2010: Boxed Product – RRP $209; Product Key Card – RRP $169

But here’s the catch: The Product Key only grants a singular user license, meaning the software can only be used on one computer. The boxed versions of the software will contain three user licenses, meaning it can be installed across three computers.
