In what can only be described as a textbook case of ‘driving up demand by limiting supply’, Apple has today issued a brief statement to say that all international shipments of its eagerly anticipated iPad have been delayed until the end of May. The company has attributed the delay to strong demand for the iPad in the US, where it has reportedly sold more than 500,000 units since early April.
The delay means, notwithstanding any additional delays, the Australian market won’t be able to start buying iPads until late May. However, Apple fans won’t be left completely in the dark: Apple will reveal the international pricing for its different iPad models on May 10, at which time pre-orders can be placed online. — Kevin Cheung
