With the rise of YouTube and other such video streaming services available to any internet-connected computer user these days, the TV has lost its role as the entertainment centrepiece of the house. Laptop and desktop computers are ever improving their entertainment capabilities and the TV is having to fight for attention all over again.
Cue the entry of the UX600; Toshiba’s latest offering in the increasingly popular internet-capable TV models that are flooding the market. This 1080p HDTV is a Wi-Fi friendly device that offers Vudu Movies and a bunch of other web functionality. Users will be able to stream some 5,000 HD movies and access a range of web services including the ever-popular YouTube, Facebook and Flickr.
Better yet, the UX600 can be customised to display incoming news headlines, stock quotes, tweets and other such piecemeal information at the bottom of the TV screen. As would be expected from new-release TVs, the UX600 is an LED-backlit set, and impressively it’s less than two inches thick. The UX600 is set to hit the US next month in 40-inch, 46-inch and 55-inch varieties, with no word at this stage as to when it will arrive Down Under.
