So You Want To: Fly in an Airbus A380

Cheap airfares and plenty of flights means it?s just the right time. Here’s the ultimate list of how much it will cost you and where you can go

If there is one thing we know about Popular Science magazine and PopSci.com.au readers, it?s that they love aviation. With Australia being so far from the rest of civilisation, it?s a good and a bad thing. It means slightly fewer carriers visit our shores, but generally those that do send their bigger aircraft.

That?s certainly the case when it comes to the A380. Three carriers, Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Qantas, use them, and all three carriers send them to Australian airports. Sydney Kingsford-Smith is the luckiest, getting all three, while Melbourne?s Tullamarine also gets the Qantas variety.

You also have a fairly decent choice of where to fly on an A380 with destinations including Singapore, Los Angeles and Auckland directly. Being that each A380 has room for around 500 passengers, it?s no surprise that all three carriers have some pretty good deals at the moment on their A380 flights.

If you want to experience the latest in commercial aviation, book a seat on one of these and enjoy the ride. Here is a list of where you can go, how long the flights will take, and around how much it will cost you as of right now (the final two are approximates though as they do change).

Singapore Airlines
Singapore?s national carrier, usual suspect for best airline around, and first to receive the A380 now has eight behemoths in service. Sydney was the A380?s first destination. They fly:

Around $850 (7.5 hours)

A few fun facts:
*Sydney gets all the A380s, New York City gets none. Emirates used to fly there but moved the A380 to service Toronto after weak demand.
*In an all-economy layout, the A380 could carry around 900 passengers.
*Air France will be the next carrier to get their hands on an A380.
*Qantas is the only carrier who offers premium economy service on the A380.
*Singapore Airlines is the only carrier to have economy seating in the top deck, using a 2-4-2 layout compared to 3-4-3 on the bottom deck.
