Tiger Airways to Fly into Sydney

Budget airlines Tiger Airways has announced it will begin flying Australia?s busiest route, Sydney to Melbourne

Tiger Airways, the budget airline owned by carrier of the year Singapore Airlines, has announced that it will begin operating on the busy Sydney to Melbourne route. The carrier will fly the route four times daily and prices will start at around $68, cheaper than both the standard fares of JetStar and Virgin Blue. The service will begin operation on July 3.

The Sydney to Melbourne route is the busiest in Australia as well as the fourth busiest in the world, with just under 1,000 flights per week. Tiger Airways had initially avoided serving New South Wales? capital city but after flights on the route and at Sydney?s Kingsford Smith International Airport declined, the company saw an opportunity to provide the service.

Tiger had been serving Newcastle, about two hours north of Sydney by car, but low demand brought an end to the service.
