This infographic comes courtesy of the folks at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, whom we imagine know what they're talking about. Still curious about some of the things you see in the graphic? You can read Popular Science's reporting on the mind-controlled exoskeleton that helped make the first kick, as well as the latest official World Cup ball.
Here's another awesome infographic you can enjoy in full 300dpi glory in the June edition of Australian Popular Science, out now! Or subscribe at www.mymagazines.com.au!
Living as we do under the generous umbrella of Medicare, it's easy for Aussies to bitch and moan about the state of public hospitals and how the floors are grotty and the nurses sometimes rude... in our free hospitals... but just remember: it could be a lot worse and a LOT more expensive. Take healthcare in the US for instance. We know it costs, but do we really appreciate how MUCH it costs?
MixMag's annual Global Drug Survey came out yesterday, and it has the breakdown. The survey asked 22,000 people about their drug use habits, and MixMag packaged the data in this nice little infographic. Maybe not surprisingly, the drug of choice is the legally obtainable alcohol. Cannabis isn't too far behind.
Do you remember the moment when crowdfunding became A Thing? Sites like Kickstarter have been around for a few years now, and the amount they've grown in that time is bananas, as this infographic from Statista shows. From 2010 to 2012, cash spent on crowdfunding tripled, from $900 million to about $2.7 billion. (If they included data back to 2009 here, it would've been a 529 percent increase between then and 2012.)
Mobile gaming is big because it's just so darn convenient. You can play a round of something in bed, in transit, or - no judging here - in the bathroom, as 11 percent of mobile gamers apparently do, according to this infographic from SponsorPay (which works with game companies like Zynga and EA).
