Tesla Motors' Model X is set for an official reveal tomorrow when the first examples of the electric SUV are delivered to their eagerly awaiting customers at a special ceremony at Tesla's plant in Fremont, California. We've already had a good look at the vehicle and learned that it will cost $5,000 more than a Model S sedan with similar specs.
Now we have a look at its 'Falcon' doors in action. This video from YouTube user Susan Le (via BMW Blog) shows one of the prototypes for the Model X in a car park and a person using the raising door to hop in. Because of the folding aspect of the door (otherwise it would be a gullwing), the Model X should still be able to open its rear doors in tight parking spots.
Like the Model S, the Model X is anticipated to redefine performance for its segment. The top model will be a P90D equipped with a 90-kilowatt-hour battery pack. It's claimed to have a range of 240 miles, a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph in standard guise.
Opt for the much-hyped “Ludicrous Speed” option, however, and the Model X P90D should hit 60 in just 3.2 seconds and pass the quarter mile in 11.7 seconds—truly mindboggling figures for a mid-size SUV with the capacity to carry seven and tow up to 5,000 pounds.
