JVC injects a little X factor into its Everio line

Everio X JVC

JVC’s new Everio X camcorder will shoot Full HD video (1920x1080) in AVCHD format on to an SDHC card. Although it doubles as a 9 megapixel still camera, it can also shoot 5 megapixel stills on-the-fly while shooting 1080p video. Interestingly, the shutter speed for stills captured while shooting a video can be as fast as 1/4,000 of a second — well on par with pro-level DSLR cameras.

The unit will come with a raft of features including image stabilisation and different scene modes, but the highlight for us has got to be the adjustable slow-motion mode. That is, you’ll be able to capture your own personal Rocky Balboa-style slow-motion punches in all the sweaty details. The catch is that since the video is capturing at a rate of 600 frames-per-second, it can only record at a resolution of 640x72 pixels. Bump that frame rate up to 300 or 120 frames-per-second, and you get a corresponding increase in resolution to 480x112 and 480x272 respectively.

JVC’s new camcorder is one of many ‘slimline’ camcorders being released by all of the major manufacturers. In this case, the Everio X will be small enough to fit in your pocket and weighs only 298 grams.

Everio X is expected to be released in the Australian market towards the end of July for $1,999. We’ll have more for you here and in the mag when review units start doing the rounds.
