Does Your Taste in Music Reflect Your Intelligence?

Jay-Z, Beyonce or Fall Out Boy fan? The news isn't good for you! Ben Folds, Counting Crows and Radiohead listeners will be laughing (intelligently) though

Does your music taste define your intelligence? : http://musicthatmakesyoudumb.virgil.gr/

If you're music taste reflects your intelligence, we have bad news for lovers of Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lil' Wayne, Fall Out Boy and classical music in general. You're all stupid! That's according to a chart that has been produced by an American student, Virgil Griffith. It's good news though for people who enjoy Ben Folds, Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead, Counting Crows and Beethovan. You're so smart you're probably constructing a nuclear reactor while you're reading this and making your afternoon tea all at the same time.

Sadly though (for fans of the intelligent music), the study by Mr Griffith was rather un-scientific. The US based study used Facebook to find out the most popular music at colleges around the country and then got their average SAT scores to plot a graph that looked something like the one you see above. Other issues include classical music as a genre rating poorly while Beethovan rates off the charts.

Griffith himself states it's not really accurate but fun none the less. He's a PhD student by the way, so one would think he has half a brain.

I read the results for this on a different site, and to be honest, you CAN pick some trends out of it. People have said that music of a certain beats per minute will help you study, mainly classical music does this, nothing else you'd find from the last few decades.

I think it's hilarious that Lil Wayne is at the bottom of the barrel. As an avid hip-hop fan, a lot of the other results aren't surprising either. Outkast makes a lot of music that's thought provoking and intelligent, whereas someone like Jay-Z frequently and literally dumbs his music down in order to sell more CDs to the masses.

LOL, I'm cracking up because I have several Ben Folds (and Ben Folds Five...not sure why they changed their name) albums, not to mention a few Beethoven CDs. And nothing of Lil Wayne, Beyonce or Jay-Z! Does that make me a super genius? I'd say not in my current state.

Simply trying to get a correlation between music genre and test scores is completely flawed, but funny nonetheless!
