Canada has confirmed its first sexually transmitted Zika case. This is the first time a Canadian citizen has gotten Zika inside the country.

The unidentified Canadian contracted the disease from a partner who had traveled to another country. There are currently 55 other confirmed cases of Zika in Canada, all contracted in other countries.

Popular Science has compiled information on Zika, which is transmitted mostly by mosquitoes. The first cases were reported last year in Brazil. Zika has been confirmed to cause birth defects associated with microcephaly. There is no vaccine or cure.
