Face unlock, one of the new features in Android ICS
Gadgets //

Google has just concluded a launch event in Hong Kong for its upcoming Android update, 4.0, alongside the flagship handset's manufacturer, Samsung. But really, everyone should call it by its true name, Ice Cream Sandwich.

The event, to show off the first 4.0 handset known as the Galaxy Nexus, demonstrated a number of key features of the revamped platform, including a UI overhaul, built-in photo editing, an NFC feature called Android Beam, and the ability to unlock the phone using face recognition.

The Beam feature, in particular, looks really interesting. It allows devices to exchange videos, web pages, and apps by touching them physically together, using NFC technology, a feature you can also use between a HP Pre and Touchpad (if by some stroke of fortune you happen to own one of each and use both). The difference being that the HP devices transfer via Bluetooth instead.

The 4.0 SDK is already available, so if you're of a mind, check it out here.

Also watch this video for a brief overview of the features, involving, for some reason, Androids riding lightcycles.
