Canon have announced the new king of the pile when it comes to their DSLR lineup, the Canon EOS-1D X. This isn't your daddy's DSLR camera, folks.
The device comes with an 18.1 megapixel, full frame sensor, and dual image processors in order to churn through all the data coming in, and help in noise reduction. These processors also mean the camera has the ability to kick up burst capability towards 12 frames per second.
It also boasts a large ISO range, going all the way from 50 to 51,000, which is a fair whack above that of the camera it's more or less replacing, the EOS-1D Mark IV. Of course, if you like, that range can potentiall be expanded all the way up to ISO 204,800. This will make it fantastic for low-light shooting.
The SD cart slot is gone, but is replaced by two CF slots and and an ethernet port, in case you just really are going nuts and taking several gigabytes worth of photos (or rather video) a minute.
And there's also the more usual upgrades to colour metering, user interface, and the shutter and lens itself.
The camera launches in March of next year, with a local price yet to be set. It will be retailing in the US for about US$6,800.
