Newly purchased netbooks are no longer limited to Windows 7 Basic
According to
Gadget Mix, Microsoft has turned about-face on their original decision and is now set to allow netbook manufacturers to have access to the six varieties of Windows 7. A Microsoft spokesperson had the following to say to target=?_blank?>TG Daily; ?OEMs and ODMs have the choice to install any version of Windows on a netbook. [But Windows 7] Starter is an entry version and doesn?t have many of the consumer or business features. The three application limit isn?t there anymore.?
This is great news for not only those contemplating buying a new netbook over the coming months, but anyone looking at purchasing Windows 7 Starter. If you do choose to go with Windows 7 Starter or Basic, you will, however, be missing out on the following features; fast user switching, desktop personalisation, support for multiple monitors, Aero, Windows Media Centre, DVD playback capabilities, taskbar previews and internet connection sharing.
