Qantas Celebrates 50 Years on Pacific Route

A route that was once dominated by Qantas is now shared by three other airlines, but it didn?t stop Qantas celebrating the feat, in typical GFC style

There was no recreation of the original trip, which went from Sydney to San Francisco via Nadi and Honolulu. There were no real A-list celebrities either. Instead, Qantas celebrated the 50-year anniversary of the Pacific route (generally Sydney to mainland America) by serving cupcakes to its passengers on flight QF73 to San Francisco yesterday.

The original trip was done in a Boeing 707. Qantas now runs Boeing 747-400 Longreach aircrafts on the flight that takes around 14 hours. They have stiff competition though from the likes of V Australia, Delta and United Airlines, all who serve the American mainland non-stop.
