American Airlines Solves Their Global Financial Crisis Woes With One Ticket

Airlines may be losing money quicker than Hollywood stars lose weight, but American Airlines has found a solution? charge $42 million for a ticket - seriously!

We?re serious. As a few Australian will know, American Airlines is a One World airline, just as Qantas is, and they do a lot of code share flights with Australia?s national carrier. For example, I just flew to Brisbane on a Qantas flight that had an AA flight code as well. So it?s not surprising that a lot of Aussies flying in the States would use AA, after all, you can get Frequent Flyer points by using them, and usually their airfares are rather decent (not to mention that awesome raw metal livery they use).

We emphasise the world ‘usually’, when we speak of their decent airfares. When we searched for a flight from San Francisco to Honolulu there were the standard cheap fares (from a rather cool $214 Australian) but there was also this (see circled in picture) mixed in.

We were going to purchase this fare to see what happened, but between myself and Kevin, the Popular Science magazine editor, we could only scrape together $2.50. If anyone would like to donate the other $42,950,085.50, please contact us (we decided to purchase the cheaper of the two $42 million flights).

We’re going to assume this is a computer glitch on AA’s part… we hope!
