The carrier with the largest number of A380 orders made the surprise announcement yesterday
*Redeployed to Toronto and Bangkok routes
*Situation may change in the future
Emirates, the carrier with the largest amount of A380 orders (58) has pulled the mega jumbo out of services to New York. The UAE based airline, which has two services from Dubai to New York daily, announced it would be pulling the A380 off the route. One of those daily services was carried out by the A380. Two A380s rotated shifts on the service.
It?s a sign of the economic times as Emirates cited a lack of patronage on the A380 service between the two cities. New York being one of the financial capitals of the world, and Dubai being one of the richest cities in the world, it is not a surprise that patronage has dropped during this time.
Emirates will redeploy the two A380s on surprising routes though. One will serve on the non-stop Dubai to Toronto route (three times weekly) while the other will join a fleet of Emirates planes that serve the twice-daily Dubai to Bangkok route. A long-range Boeing 777 will replace the A380 on the Dubai to New York route as of June 1.
The airline has said that it will revaluate the situation at a later date. In the meantime, the announcement means that New York is now not served by the A380. Emirates fly its fleet to London, Sydney, Auckland, Bangkok, Toronto and Dubai. Singapore Airlines serves Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney and London with its fleet while Qantas flies its three to Los Angeles, Singapore, Melbourne and London.
