QANTAS kills off its final 747-300

The introduction of the A380 means the old workhorse no longer has a place on the QANTAS roster

The final 747-300 in the QANTAS fleet will fly from Sydney to Arizona next Tuesday where it will park permanently in the Marana plane graveyard unless sold. The plane was used to do runs on the Melbourne-Auckland-Los Angeles route. It?s layout contained no first class or premium economy, just economy and business.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the first QANTAS 747-300 entered service in 1984 and by 1987 there were five in the fleet. Between them they covered 524,000 hours of flying.

The 747-300 was the final plane in the QANTAS fleet that required a flight engineer in the cockpit.
