F/A-18 fighter jet crashes into residential area in the USA

More like science fiction rather than popular science

An F/A-18 supersonic jet has crashed in a residential area of San Diego. The crash occurred at 7am AEST this morning. Three civilians have lost their lives in the incident. The plane, allegedly belonging to the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, smashed into houses just after the pilot had ejected. He landed in a school sports field and was reported to be dazed and confused.

The crashed occurred 3.2 kilometres outside of the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. People on the ground reported hearing the F/A-18 struggling on one engine before a gunshot like sound of the pilot ejecting and then the impact. San Diego police are investigating and Popular Science is hoping to find out exactly why such a technically advanced fight jet such as the F-18 came down.
